Who would believe in poor Jesus?

When you follow even without understanding, that is Surrender.

That is what Surrender is. You do not know what the whole thing is about and yet there is something that tells you, to just go along with it.

AP: You have a beautiful body; how will you use it to make people come to you?

L: Display it.

AP: Now look at Mahavir and Lalla. If you want people to listen to you, they must first of all be present in front of you. Why not attract them this way?

Stories have no use, in fact, those stories must be dropped, after a point. After a point, if you are really wise, you will see the foolishness and the falseness of those stories.

L: Why are Miracles added to all the stories?

AP: We need them.

Otherwise, who would believe in poor Jesus.

You must see the True in the false also

Truth is that which is independent of everything.

The World determines you, the mind; and you determine the World. It’s the same. And when you know these two together, then you have exceeded them both.

What will we do with awareness? Awareness is already doing what it has to do.

False is not a word that you can use carelessly. Only in deep contact with Truth, do you call the projections of Truth as false.

When you go to the root of desire, you find that your ultimate desire is just one. And that is Truth.

Condemning anything is to condemn the Truth. Because nothing but the Truth exists.

You must see the True in the false also.

Freedom is Health

Love is a relationship. A healthy relationship is LoveAny healthy relationship is Love, and a healthy relationship is possible only when you are healthy.

What is healthy being? A healthy being is one who is not restless, who is not continuously suffering, whose mind is not continuously wandering in tension, in misery.

You don’t need to become healthy, you are healthy.

What does Health mean? Health means that which you are without any education.

Even in your worst situation, even in your darkest hour, even in your last breath, you will not be able to force yourself to like slavery. It is impossible.

Freedom is Health.

Nobody can lose his or her NatureYou are Healthy.

Becoming is alright in small matters but in essential matters of life, becoming is a disease, unnecessary disease. A disease that is just an assumption but such a deep assumption that it ruins the entire climate of the mind.

Guru is the realization that even the maya is Brahm

Guru is the realisation that, all that which is denoted by ‘Gu’ need not take control or possession of me, that, ‘ru’ is possible to co-exist along with ‘Gu’; ‘ru’ means standing still, ‘Gu’ means all the movements that you see. Guru means a great paradox where ‘Gu’ and ‘ru’ co-exist, where the periphery and the center dance with each other, where the sky and stars are one with each other. The sky has no form, no shape, doesn’t come, doesn’t go. The stars were born, the stars will go, and yet they are so one with each other – that is Guru.

The Guru is the one that powers the seeing, the Guru is the seer and the Guru is the seen.

The Guru is not the object in your universe, the Guru is the foundation of the universe.

Guru hence is freedom from the great fear of death. With ‘Gu’ there is only death. With ‘ru’ there is neither birth, nor death. In ‘Guru’ there is immortality in the middle of death.

Guru is the name of the great game. A game in which there is neither victory, nor loss, just fun. When fun is divine, you call it as Joy.

To know the Guru, is to know the Truth. To know the Guru, is no different than knowing the Atman, the Brahm absolutely.

The great game is ‘of the Truth’, ‘in the Truth’ and is nothing but the Truth. And hence in this great game, the Truth keeps showing up in all possible ways; nothing else but the Truth shows up.

The realization that the false has no recourse but to submit to the Truth, is the Guru. The realization that even the false is Truth, is the Guru.

Guru is the realization that even the maya is Brahm.

‘Things’ will not suffice

On the weekend after a lunch, you went off to sleep, and when you wake up after a few hours it is dark and you feel an inexplicable uneasiness. You do not know what has happened. When you went to sleep it was bright, and now it is dark. And it is weekend. You are not in your office. You are not surrounded by people, and there is nothing to do. You are not surrounded even by work.

Have you felt the tremendous scare that these moments pose?

That is loneliness.

And if you cannot live with these moments, you’ll pick up the mobile, call up your boyfriend and say, “Can we meet over dinner?”

You have given yourself a cheap solution.

Do you see this?

Or you would pick up the mobile phone and start looking at some website. “Okay, so what is happening in the football league? What is happening in the presidential elections?” Is it really the presidential elections that you care for?

No, you are just deceiving yourself.

Or you may start thinking about something. Thought is a great way to escape. Or you’ll go, and make yourself a drink, or a cup of tea. You’ll give yourself something to do. Or if you are spiritually oriented, you’ll go and pick up some religious text, book of wisdom. But what we will not do is look squarely at what is happening. That we will not do, because that is dangerous; dangerous to our ways of living, dangerous to our patterns.

Loneliness might be love, but it would remain a love unfulfilled, unless loneliness is understood, unless one has the fearlessness, and the faith to go into direct contact with the feeling of loneliness. “Yes I am feeling lonely, and I will not run away from it. I may shiver, I may tremble, I may feel a great discomfort, yet it does not pay to escape this.” ‘Love’ and ‘loneliness’ are together, but love would reach its climax, its finality, its dissolution, only if one understands his loneliness.
Loneliness craves for its dissolution, and that is called Aloneness.
Loneliness craves to reach its end, and that is called Aloneness.
And in that aloneness, even Love does not exist.
In that aloneness, there is no reaching, no arriving, no achieving.
And hence, nothing to get attracted to.

Even love disappears; it’s gone.

Love requires that at least a minimum separation is there between you and that which you love. Love requires the existences of ‘two’ even if the ‘two’ are deeply intimate. But ‘twoness’ must be there for love. In aloneness, that ‘twoness’ itself is gone. Now, whom would you love? You are one with the beloved. Whom to love? Only the beloved remains. To whom does one offer his love now?

Please take every single feeling of discomfort, of disquiet as a signal that there is something that beckons you, and that something is not a thing. So, you better not try out things. There is something that is calling you but that which is calling you is not a thing. So, do not deceive yourself with one thing or the other.

‘Things’ will not suffice.

Do you know the difference between a scholar and a devotee?

Have you ever wondered why we call God as big; bigger; biggest? It is because the universe that we perceive is big and so we have come to have a respect for the word “big”.

When we say, when we use big as a respectable word, we are actually respecting the universe, because the universe is the biggest fact that we know. That is the difference between the ordinary one and the devotee. The ordinary one would conceptualize God as a large-ness, as a beyond-ness, as something transcendental. Something so huge that it cannot even be imagined. I repeat, what else is so huge that you cannot even imagine it? The universe.

It is because we have so much respect for the universe – which actually is fear – it is because we are so afraid of the universe that we conceptualize God as the big one. When the universe is not very important for you, then it is no more needed to think of God as the big one; then God can be your size; then God can be even smaller than you; then God is approachable. You can hold God in your arms. Then the relationship with God is not that of fear or greed. Then you do not say that a religious man is God fearing. Then the relationship between you and God is that of Love. Now, God is as lovable as an infant. You can hold God in your arms. Would you say that you are infant fearing? Then why do you say you are God fearing? Why does that word even exist in the dictionary?

For the devotee, God can be a small kid. You are holding the kid in your arms. And somebody like Hafiz is not going to stop at that. He is not just saying that you are holding God in your arms. He is saying, ‘You are actually nursing the kid’. And it’s so wonderful that in nursing the kid, you are nursing the entire creation.

Bliss! Marvelous!

One can only settle in Silence.

Nursing God; nursing God as an infant.

Not God – the father;

not God – the immense;

not God – the Protector;

not God – the Savior;

God- the little one.

You can kiss him, cuddle him, and his skin is so soft.

And his face is so small.

And his nose!

That is only for lovers of God. Not for those who fear God. Not for those who think that God does justice; God keeps a record of your good and bad actions. Not for those who come up with theories and stories like God created the universe, God may dissolve the Universe.

The Real lover has nothing to do with the past – he doesn’t worry whether God created the universe and when and how. The Real lover has nothing to do with future– He is not bothered whether and when and how the universe will be dissolved by God.

He just Loves.

And love is not a thought, love is not a hope.

Love is a reality.

He loves God right now.

One does not talk loudly to God; somebody may hear!

God is not known as knowledge or information. God does not come to you through the database of memories. God cannot be knowledge that you get from a book. God is knowing in absence of knowledge. God is realization without the aid of mind. And that is your contract with God – “I would know you, but not talk about you. If I talk about you, then I have lost you”.
But we love to talk.
The moment you make these matters worldly; how does a matter become worldly? The moment it is put in words. What has been put in words have become worldly. The moment you make these matters a subject of words, a subject of thought, you have totally lost it. You have come in between. You are language. You are society. You are civilization. You are all mental activity.
Fulfilment is when you are not thinking about fulfilment. Real knowing is when you are not thinking in terms of knowledge. Love is when you forget all about love. Fearlessness is when you are not thinking that you are fearless. If you are thinking that you are fearless, you are just using thought as a defence mechanism. Whatever is Real is known by its absence in the psychic world.
If it does not come in thoughts then it is Real. If the mind cannot imagine it, hold it, touch it, conceptualise it, then it is Real. Don’t talk about God. Don’t take the name of God so often. The more you talk about God, the more it is proven that God is missing. God is not a subject of discussion. God is not something to be remembered. Only objects are remembered. Only the world can be remembered.
Forget God totally, and now you know God.
Any thought of God, even the grandest thought that you can have is actually an insult to God. Even the most beautiful image that you can have of God is actually an ugly image. All images are ugly because they are just images, not Real.
Keep the secret.
Don’t spill the beans.
That’s the essence of Spirituality.

Don’t break the news.

Like lovers talk in hushed tones.
One does not talk loudly to God.

Somebody may hear.

Whatsoever is left unfulfilled, seeks fulfilment through thought

Thought arises only when there is a challenge, a problem, a doubt, a dispute. If everything is well-settled, then there is no need to think. In intimate love, everything is surely well-settled. So, where is the need for thought? You will know all the intimate details about God, but you will say nothing. Not only will you not say anything to others, you will also not say anything to yourself. You won’t even think. Thinking is an insult, an abomination. In matters of the Real, you just be. You do not think.
If you have to think about your Beloved, if you miss your Beloved, it is a sure sign of absence of Love. Where there is something Real, it is always complete. The Real is complete by definition. What is complete by definition does not seek completion through after-thought. If your meeting has been complete, you will not be left groping the memories.
Whatsoever is left unfulfilled, seeks fulfilment through thought. That which is Total and Complete, just fades away, dissolves. Hence, the Real Lover will not make himself felt through thought. He would not want to become an object in your mind. He will not say, “Remember me at all times in the day”.

The sign of True Love is that you can forget.

You can totally forget.

You are so assured that there is no need to think or remember.

Thought is not needed. Verbalization is not needed. You are knowing without thinking – and that is Real knowing, when you know without thinking, when you know without effort, without knowledge, without memories.

Ask for it, you have lost it!

What would happen if you are already in a lip lock and you are saying “Kiss me”? What would happen if your lips are already sealed against the lips of Beloved and you feel the need to use words?

In saying kiss me, you have aborted the kiss. In saying kiss me, you have terminated the kiss. That is the thing about anything real. The moment you ask it, you lose it. The moment you demand it, call for it, ask for it, you have lost it. Whatever is real is never a matter of asking, demanding, pleading, praying; if it is real, rest assured it is already available.

Adultery

The words of a Teacher must be listened in great attention and empathy; never take them literally.

You will always, otherwise, misinterpret.

What is the definition of adultery?

Adultery does not mean that you are hanging out with somebody else’s wife.

Adultery means that you are now taking something as a high priority and that something can never be God.

That is the real definition of adultery: To be disloyal to God.

Real Immersion

You don’t need to pretend that you are very busy with your work.

If your Heart is at the right place, right work will naturally flow from it.

You won’t then do it to display it to somebody. It would not then be a means of earning something. Now work is an expression of your Heart. And you do not bother about how it appears to others. You know what you are doing. You are not doing it for anybody else. You are doing it for yourself. It is your own personal thing. And personal in the right sense of the word. Not in the divided sense. Now you are not doing it to please your boss. Now it is your own work, you have ownership.

You don’t even have to really report. Because you are your own authority now. You cannot sleep properly if you know that you haven’t done the due. Why do you even need to go and tell somebody else? Somebody else might be easily deceived. And that’s what you do when you report to somebody else. It is very easy to deceive him because you are the one who is reporting, you can misrepresent.

But when you are doing it from your Heart, then your Heart is the authority.

And it cannot be deceived.

That is real work.

That is real immersion.

As action becomes vigorous, thoughts get subdued

Real action does not demand too many thoughts, because if you are still thinking a lot, then that thinking will impede the action.

If you are really acting, then thoughts will keep going down, and down, and down.

As action becomes vigorous, thoughts get subdued.

It is only with a calm mind that one can enter into right and energetic action.

Who has the time and who has the space to label life as ‘good’ or ‘bad’?

Religion is Intelligence

The intelligent man has no beliefs.

Because all beliefs come from the past.

He just knows.

There is a difference between knowing and believing.

Do you understand this difference?

If I am blind, then I need to believe that there is a door there.

But if I have eyes, then do I need to believe that there is a door there? I will know.

Religion is not believing.

Any intelligent man is bound to be religious. Every intelligent man is religious.

Because religion is Intelligence.

Religion is knowing.

Religion is not belief.

Going to the temple or the mosque is not religion.

Utility of knowledge

Have you seen these kinds of people, who appear nice and peaceful as long as certain conditions are been satisfied in their environment?

But the moment their environment takes an unpredictable turn or changes, in a direction that they do not support or like, these people simply lose their cool. Their mental poise is all gone! The man who appeared so composed is suddenly a mess – angry, violent, out of his mind.

This is the mind that lives by knowledge.

It’s a different center of living all together, it’s a dependent center.

And then there is a mind that lives by itself.

This is the mind that, I say, lives in constant knowing.

As far the world of senses and perceptions goes, knowledge may have some utility.

Only as long as I am ignorant, knowledge may have some utility.

But if I am talking about the Real; if I am talking about the Truth, then knowledge does not mean anything.

One thing at a time

A Zen monk has said, “When I eat, I eat; when I walk, I walk; when I sleep, I sleep.”

We live in a different way.

When we walk then we are talking in our heads.
When we are eating then we are planning ‘when am I going to study’.

And there is a great deal of parallel actions going on, obviously which is imaginary.

In reality, actions can never be parallel.

Existence does not allow multi-tasking. It says, “One thing at a time.”

Rebel deeply

When you rebel superficially, then your rebellion is a very tempestuous rebellion.

There is a lot of sound and fury in it, there is a lot of shaking up and agitation in it.

But when your rebellion is really really deep, then it becomes a very peaceful rebellion.

Your rebel, you rebel deeply because you are so convinced that you cannot be defeated,
so there is no agitation in your rebellion.

Your rebellion is not that of the servant against the master;
your rebellion is the command of the master himself.

You are not rising against something;
now your rebellion is just a rising.

Here and now simply means that be alert to what is in the mind

Here and now does not really pertain to an objective reality because there is no objective reality.

Here and now pertains to the state that the mind is in.

All that here and now means is that when the mind is in a particular state, then that state is all that there is.

Mind is in temptation, then the temptation is all that there is.

Mind is anger, then anger is all that there is.

Here and now simply means that be alert to what is in the mind

Detachment

Detachment means that the mind knows it’s Real home,
so it does not have to beg for other homes.

Detachment means that the mind knows it’s Real lover,
so it does not have to look for love here and there.

Detachment means that the mind is dependent only on the One,
so it is not dependent on the thousands.

That is detachment.

Don’t encroach upon the Sacred territory

  • The mind wants to know what is Real. It will never get an answer. So don’t even try that. Man has always tried to capture the Divine within his fantasies. That is the reason why all these holy scriptures are there.
  • The fact of the matter is, that every holy scripture is bound to be misleading. What is the scripture doing? It is trying to capture that which cannot be captured. Yes, it can be helpful if taken in the right spirit. It can be helpful if used just as a guide.
  • The moment you take the words as the final thing, you are gone. Man has tried to make temples, and then he has put statues in these temples. What is he trying to do? He is trying to give a form to that which cannot have a form. Man has tried to sing songs in the praise of the One. The One cannot be pointed by using any song.
  • At the same time, I am not denouncing all that, all that is useful, but there is subtle arrogance in all this. Arrogance is that, ‘Whatever there is, my mind can capture it; I can understand.’
  • And beware the day when you start feeling that you have understood the Divine as well. Think of the height of your arrogance, your utter insouciance, if you become convinced that, ‘I know the Real’.
  • I am not asking you to not to be inquisitive. It is one thing to be inquisitive. But to try to transgress, is an altogether different matter. To transgress in the zone of the Sacred, is something you should never dare to do. Never. Mind craves for images, it will ask you to create more and more images.
  • Whatever you can think of, know of, sleep of, dream of, talk of, sing of, is mind. It hurts because sometimes you have such lovely visions, you feel that surely it is coming from somewhere else.
  • No, it’s coming from nowhere, all coming is from here, the mind. And that is a great rebellion, when you start seeing the mental as mental, it’s a great rebellion. It’s a great challenge to live in that way.
  • Don’t encroach upon the Sacred territory. Surrender to it, bow to it, live in great awe of it. Get immersed in it. Lose yourself in it. But don’t ever try to claim that you understand it. It is a mystery and let it remain a mystery.
  • I don’t understand what is happening in the mind. But my dream is to understand the That. Understand what is happening day-in and day-out in life first. Why aspire for something which is beyond you?
