Who is a sage? A sage is the one who is extremely sensitive, who is able to catch even that which we normally ignore.
The saint is one who has realized that life is not also hell but just hell.
Because in thinking and concluding thus, you’ve missed the happening.
Gratefulness is not the thought of gratefulness. Joy is not the thought of joy. Truth is not the thought of truth.
Gratefulness means not having any sense of like or dislike.
The spiritual man is neck deep into action. He is not an escapist.
Because all your imagination proceeds from the centre of what you currently have made yourself to be, what you currently are.
Where the light is, there the lamp is.
The Self and the Ego are not the two ends of duality. It’s non-duality talking to duality.
That is what happens when a teacher exposes the falseness of one’s existing religion. When the teacher exposes the falseness of one’s existing motivations! The teacher says you know, the route that you are taking will lead you deeper into darkness. And what is the immediate conclusion that the mind draws? The mind says, he does not want me to go there, it means that he wants me to come to him. He is telling me that all those shops are false. And that surely proves that he wants me to come to his own shop. That is a quick suspicion, rather conclusion, that the mind jumps into.
You will not have your lamp, where your forefathers found their lamp. You will have to find your lamp using your own eyes. And the only mark of lamp is, Light. Don’t disregard the Light. The Light is the only proof of the lamp.
Searching for Truth, but in the wrong way, and at the wrong places, and from the wrong center. That is what the ego does. It wants light. The ego too wants light. But it won’t get it.
The scripture’s final aim is to bring you to the living scripture.
Every method is interference.
The only real method is a method that touches life very-very gently. Has no intention of changing and that intentless observation is. Hence the only method.
Observation alone does not try to do something.
Because that which you will grasp will no more be ordinary.
When an observer is a motivated observer then the observation changes the observed.
Don’t chase, she is yours.
There you just know. Either you just know or you do not know.
Those who will want proof will never know. They may get the proofs but they will never get the way.

What is right for one, cannot be right for the other. The method that suits one, cannot suit the other.
And when you see better, then you know on your own, the step to take, the direction to move.
The moment you cause suffering, it is to yourself that the suffering has been caused.
If you do not know what is not right for him, surely, firstly you do not know what is right for you. His suffering will be your suffering.

This nose, these eyes, this language, these clothes, these thoughts, they are all influences. Influences by themselves are no guarantors of suffering.
Influences are the celebration of life.
In fact, in being totally open to influences, you are leading a total life.
The teacher is one who is totally open to influences, who is totally available to the situation. The disciple is one who lives in standards in benchmarks.
To him, this directionlessness, this non-resistance is his total oneness with existence.
The real one has nothing to defend, so he never defends.
And after calling him all the names, you are left with no more names, that’s when you fall silent and that is teaching.
Do not try to judge it on your moral platforms. That judgment will not be wrong, it will be simply irrelevant.
If you have a direction then you are not directionless.
The direction does not keep on changing. Your ways keep on changing. The destination that you have set for yourself that does not change. Your destination is a pleasure.

Grace might be falling freely, but you are not in a position to receive it because you are confined with the limits of the person; and the person does not know Hindi. Hence you require a medium on the outside that tally’s with; who is conducive to, who matches with the requirements of your personality.
In such a case, the master, also needs to be a person. Because you cannot hear walls speak. The wall is as open a book as the Upanishads. But you cannot hear the walls speak. Because you are a person, you only need a person speak. In such case, you require that grace appears in front of you like a person.
Otherwise, the master is really not a person. And the more you advance, the more your person-hood is dissolved, the more you see, you do not need a person in front of you. In fact, the shape of the master will change according to your shape! As long as you are one type of a person, you will find that the teacher is of one type. The more your constitution, your personality changes; you will find the personality of the teacher is also changing. In fact, the teacher has no definite personality. His personality is just a veneer that he has put up in order to assist you.
You change; you will find him changing. When you are moving out of your persona, you will find the teacher is also moving out of your persona. That is why the teacher is bound to disappear one day. He appears only in forms that are useful to you. The moment that utility is exhausted, he is done.

If you see problems in the Guru, if you see imperfections and lapses, will you ever really take his medicine? Will you really have confidence in his prescription, let alone faith? But when you are smart and stubborn then you have confidence only in yourself. No Krishna, no Shiva, no Brahma, no Vishnu can save you; you are your own teacher!
Remember what Ashtavakra is saying, remember what Krishna is saying. These words are not for somebody who lacks in penance, who has not put himself through the fire of self-purification. These words are not for somebody who is not totally devoted to the Truth.
Guru’s words are not at all for somebody who has the slightest of doubt in the Guru.

Life anyway does a lot of things to everybody which help them wake up. We are just one of those things, we are no special.
The fellow may fail in his semester exams and wake up. That fellow may break up with his girlfriend and wake up. The girlfriend is a guru, the exam is a guru. We are only as much of a guru. If you want to call us a guru, then the exam is also a guru; then the girlfriend is also a guru because life itself is presenting situations and these situations are present in front of everybody.
Buddha woke up by looking at a corpse – a dead body!
Life is giving you opportunities all the time.
Life is the Guru.
We are a part of life. Yes, we are a guru, of course! Why not? Because when the Source itself is the guru, everything in the life is Guru. So we are Guru but that does not mean that the piece of chair, the wood is not the guru. Wood is also a guru. All is Guru.
It is just incidental that how the light of the divine will shine upon someone.
We judge others so that we can feel superior in comparison to them. We judge others so that our own evils appear smaller in comparison to them. Then such judgments are indeed evil.
Look at the lives of the Saints and the Prophets. They have often very clearly declared the wrong to be wrong – which is in today’s parlance – a clear case of being judgmental. They were very judgmental, but they were judgmental because they were compassionate. Such judgments are alright.
Was not Christ judgmental?
Look at his utterance, and you will see several of the things that he said, if you say them, people will say that you are judging. Was not Kabir judgmental?
You get the right to judge others only after you have first judged yourself rightly, and that requires honesty.

Your friend is in your home, you believe he is not there. Since you believe he is not there, so you switch off all the lights, lock the house and go out looking for him. Now, what will happen? Will you ever find him? When you go out looking for that which is already in your home, you have guaranteed that you will continue searching.
So, never begin with a flawed assumption. Never.
That’s what all the meditators are doing—Locking up peace in the house, switching off all the lights, bolting from the outside, instructing the guard to shoot anyone who tries to go in or get out. And then they have gone all over the place looking for the friend. “Where is He? Where is He? God! God! We can’t get you, God! God the unreachable, God the unknowable, God the unthinkable, God the unnamable.”
He is sitting in your home. Go, open the door!

When you say that it is possible to challenge the false, then your life has to be a proof of that challenge. And when you come up to people not only with your words but with the backing of your life, then people appreciate it, then you are credible. Otherwise, you are just talking.
So, it has to begin with you. First of all, you have to be that who can be the messenger; who can be the Teacher.
In repeating the knowledge, you are only perpetuating misery because they already have a lot of knowledge.
And do you know what happens if you are not living what you are saying?
Then you produce more and more cynicism in people. people say, “Another one from the fake ones and because I see only the fake ones hence it is proven that Truth does not exist.” So, instead of being a teacher of Truth, you become a messenger or rather a proof of the false.

It is your humility that will work.
It is your determined humility. You are humble and yet you are determined to put it across, to do the right thing, to learn, and you are vulnerable. And you do not sit high up there on some pedestal. You do not claim a false position, and yet you do everything that is necessary. You do not say, “Oh I am a commoner, how dare I open my mouth! how dare I act like a teacher!” You teach but in humility.

India is the place where maximum scriptures were written, and India is also the place where they came to know that scriptures cannot help you beyond a point.
Only direct transmission can help.
India has had the greatest libraries.
But India has also said that—Without coming in direct contact with the Teacher things will not materialise.
It requires a Seer to see that the Truth is that which powers the eyes to see but which the eyes themselves cannot see;
that the ears are powered by some other source to hear;
that the tongue is powered by some other source to speak;
that source is so vast, immense, beyond description that the tongue cannot mention or capture that source in words.
It powered the tongue to speak, but the tongue cannot speak of it.
It powers the mind to think, but the mind cannot think of it.
It requires the humility and wisdom of a Sage to remember this.
The Teacher does not speak to confuse you.
He has no interest in throwing riddles around.
He wants to help you. So he has said something.
His words are like the Truth – direct, obvious and simple.
But to a complicated mind, the obvious and the simple makes no sense.
To a complicated mind, the obvious and the simple becomes a great puzzle.
‘The way’ is not for those who think about it.
‘The way’ is not for those who want to walk ‘the way’.
‘The way’ is not for those, who approach it through their intellect and knowledge.
‘The way’ is a resistance-less movement, and hence it is no movement at all.
It is not for those whose mind resists.
It is not for those who do not surrender to it.
It is not for those who want to look at it with open eyes, because they want to size it up.
It is not for those who close their eyes, because ‘the way’ does not demand that.
It is not for the idiots, because they are ‘idiots’.
It is not for the intelligent ones, because they are ‘intelligent’.
What to do, to at least get a glimpse of it?
If you do anything in particular, you will resist the flow,
that is already available.
The moment you resist, ‘the way’ is lost in resistance.
After learning this much about ‘the way’,
for sure you are farther from it, than you were, before you heard.
‘The way’ is not for those who prefer hearing over walking.
Had you really loved ‘the way’, you would have been walking ‘the way’,
instead of talking about it.
Attachment, inclination towards discussion about ‘the way’is a good indicator that
‘the way’ is yet far away.
