Acharya Prashant, with students: How to have confidence in oneself?

We do not Love ourselves enough to give time to ourselves. We are involved in all kinds of activities outside. But we do not look at that, which is going on inside. We consider that unimportant, just because our education has not taught us that ‘this’ is important. Our education has taught us that all kind of technology is important, the rules of the Universe are important, but ‘me’, ‘my life’ and ‘my mind’ are important, that has not been brought to us by our education. So we don’t give it time.

Give this time.

It deserves time.

You are important. You must have a certain respect, Love and regard for yourself.

And then you will not need superficial remedies like ‘confidence.’

Acharya Prashant, with students: Will living without ego cause one to starve?

I Invite you to find out whether you would really starve. The world will always have enough for you to eat. You won’t starve but you may not be able to fulfill these ambitions.

The funny part is even the ambition has been given to you by outside. So there is nothing lost if you can’t fulfill it. You don’t loose anything at all if you don’t meet your ambitions. Remember, there will always be enough to meet your needs. And a free man will always find enough to meet his needs. Because his needs are always so small.

You don’t need too much but yes, your ambitions depend upon your subservience to the society.

Needs don’t make you a slave, ambitions make you a slave.

Acharya Prashant on Brazil Elections

If one is ambitious, aggressive, insecure, seeking to promote himself, then whatever be his stated policies, he will end up exploiting everybody, just to further his personal goals and ambitions. It doesn’t matter which party he is contesting from. It doesn’t matter, what policies is he tom-tomming. If he is someone who has no compassion, if he is someone who knows no love, if he is someone who can use people to further his personal interests, then irrespective of his political affiliation, irrespective of his stated goals, he will be dangerous for both the country and the world in general.

What I am saying, sounds strange, because that is not the language of the political discourse. But I am saying that the voter must ask himself: Does my president know love? Does my president know humility? Is my president able to give up what shows up as false? Or is my president a very-very attached, a very possessive human being?

The President comes later, the human being comes first, obviously. And the president will not be able to supersede the human being. The president is first of all a human being.

The mind is not your own

Are we sure our thoughts are our thoughts? We invest really really so much in them. We talked of a case where a family was being disturbed because of ideology. That was just a starter. How about all the families that have started on the basis of ideology? Is that not a bigger tragedy? If disrupting a family based on ideology is tragic, is it not even more tragic to begin a family based on ideology? Is the family itself not an ideology? Yes?

And we invest ourselves so much in everything that is born out of thought. To a vast majority of human beings, what is a religion, except an ideology? To a vast majority of human beings is religion a relentless dive into the Truth? Is it? Or, is it about pursuing ideals, myths, codes of conduct, stories, thoughts? And don’t we give ourselves up to religion?

I am not only talking of established religions. I am also talking of the previlant religions that have not been so far accepted as religious religions. I am talking of greed, I am talking of career, I am talking of progress, I am talking of knowledgeability. One question – Had we not been told what to do, what could we have done? Now, don’t dismiss it as naive or childish, it’s an extremely important question.
